ABOUT US

Litter born 2 April 2014 ....

Kodo is a small kennel with less than 12 dogs offering a selection of quality bloodlines predominately from successful kennels in the USA and UK. We are based on a country property in the Marlborough Sounds, South Island, New Zealand which ensures our dogs a have relaxed healthy lifestyle with plenty of room to exercise and spend time with us.

We have been established in Akitas since 1988, our first Akita, NZ Ch Sakura No Hana “Shedo” was a half sister to the famous Akita : Am Ch OBJ The Widowmaker.

Kodo owes much of our success to Regalia (USA) and Redwitch Kennels (UK) who have entrusted us with their bloodlines. We also the appreciate other top breeders and handlers, worldwide, who have shared their knowledge with us.

We have also have the pleasure of being associated with some great people closer to home who have encouraged, supported and enjoy our KODO AKITAS.

In The Beginning and The Meaning of KODO ...

OUR FOUNDATION GIRLS
The key to our kennel name KOKO and SHEDO

NZ CH SAKURA NO HANA :”Shedo “

NZ CH GIN IRO NO SAKURA : “Koko”

We feel very proud to have our kennel named after our two first Akitas. We couldn’t have asked for a happier introduction to the Akita breed.

Shedo didn’t enjoy the show ring although she did gain her title. Her two main desires in life where food and to get inside. She lived happily at home until she was 12 years and gave us many years of love and joy.

Koko was a great showgirl and produced us some fabulous Akitas – including two Grand Champions. She was fit and well up until the day we lost her aged 13 years. “Arohanui” Grandma Koko.

Shedo and Koko weren’t our most successful show dogs but they taught us so much about the breed ... AKITA.
